Bio
New York-based painter, Angelina Taylor, is inspired by the world around her. She currently specializes in 3D design and digital art but has many years of technical training from all over the world. She has a bachelor’s degree in Painting from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and a master’s degree in Art Business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York City.
While growing up, Angelina was supported by her elementary art teacher. “When I was little, I had no clue what abstract art was, but my teacher was trying to push me and let me understand what my imagination is, to let my imagination free. He encouraged me to draw whatever I feel or understand about this world.” She found that her teachers encouraged her from a young age to pursue becoming an artist. They realized her talent and helped her foster a love for art. One of her teachers spoke to her family about going to a high school that focused on the arts. This is where Angelia felt that she could accentuate her technical skills.
In 2017, she began her studies at Sotheby’s Institute of Art with a concentration in Art Business. In New York, she was exposed to auctions, galleries, and the art market as a whole. She spent many years creating art, but now she was able to understand how to manage herself as an artist. She graduated with her master’s degree in 2019.
As an artist, Angelina primarily uses her surroundings as her source of inspiration. She started exploring the digital art realm alongside her painting. She finds this is a great way to merge her story-telling style with abstraction. Many of her new works feature a scene from her memory. The abstraction of the surroundings denotes that it was a past event that she is recreating. She remarks that memories are blurry in the mind. “I use the abstraction as part of the memory. It’s how I understand that moment. The colors I choose show how I feel about that moment, they show happiness.”
Angelina uses bright, bold colors in her works to indicate the emotional pull she has on her subjects. The colors reflect her personality, and she hopes to bring joy to her viewers with her choices. Along with vibrant colors, Angelina enjoys using interesting viewpoints, like the bird’s eye view. She wants to create spaces that are relatable to her viewers, but also something that is busy and full of life. Viewers will notice a lot of small details in her works. Angelina can be found in Brooklyn, she spends her time listening to music, surrounded by coffee and fruit while designing 3D art, animations, or AR/VR.
